We are excited to introduce the new Gantt Chart feature in the 9ine Platform, enhancing task and project management by providing a clear visualisation of timelines and dependencies. In addition, we have improved the Governance Platform, offering users greater flexibility when adding and managing information in the Description field for a more streamlined experience.
Introducing the new Gantt Chart feature
- We are excited to announce the introduction of the Gantt Chart feature within the 9ine Platform. This feature allows users to easily visualise task timelines, dependencies, and project progress, providing an intuitive, interactive way to manage tasks and projects.
- This feature can be accessed in two ways:
-
Left Navigation: A new Gantt Chart option has been added to the left navigation menu.
-
Tasks Log: Users can also access the Gantt Chart via the Gantt button in the Tasks log. By applying filters to refine the data, users can generate a Gantt Chart based on their filtered selections, offering a visual representation of task timelines and dependencies.
-
Left Navigation: A new Gantt Chart option has been added to the left navigation menu.
- On the left-hand side, users will see a text-based panel that displays task and project information in an organised table format. The following columns are displayed for both Projects and Tasks:
-
Priorities: Tasks are sorted from Critical to Very Low (or vice versa). If no priority is selected, it will appear at the bottom of the list.
- Title: Shows the Project or Task title.
- Start Date / Due Date: Display the scheduled start and due dates for Tasks or Projects.
- Owner: Identifies the owner responsible for the task or project.
- Duration: Displays the percentage of task completion, from 100% (Most Complete) to 0% (Least Complete), and vice versa.
-
Status: Shows the current status of the Task or Project, with adjustable row sizes to enhance visibility.
-
Priorities: Tasks are sorted from Critical to Very Low (or vice versa). If no priority is selected, it will appear at the bottom of the list.
- On the right-hand side is the visual Gantt Chart, which graphically represents tasks as horizontal bars extending from the start date to the end date. The chart includes the following features:
-
Date Display: The Gantt Chart shows the timeline using Month and Year views, and provides more detail in Weeks and Days when zoomed in.
-
Zoom In and Zoom Out: Users can adjust the view with the Zoom In and Zoom Out options at the top right corner, allowing for flexible visualisation of time spans, from detailed daily breakdowns to broader yearly overviews.
-
Milestones: Milestones are represented by diamond-shaped icons on the Gantt Chart. A milestone is a significant event or point in time for a Task or Project, typically indicating the start or end of a major phase. If a Task has only a start date or an end date (but not both), the milestone icon will be displayed. Hovering over a milestone will provide further details about the event, including the date and Task information.
-
Hover Information: When hovering the mouse over a task bar, a tooltip will appear showing detailed information such as:
- Priority of the Task
- Current status (e.g., In Progress, Complete)
- Start and End Date (with overdue Tasks prominently highlighted in red)
- Estimated Time for Task completion
- Logged Time to date
- Remaining or Overspent Time
- Any associations to other Tasks, Risks, or Issues
-
Task Bars: Task progress is represented by colour-coded bars based on the task's priority. The bar extends from the start to the due date, giving users a visual overview of where the task sits in the project timeline.
-
Date Display: The Gantt Chart shows the timeline using Month and Year views, and provides more detail in Weeks and Days when zoomed in.
- Users have the flexibility to customise their Gantt Chart view by applying a variety of filters, including:
- Project Groups: Filter Tasks by the Project Group they belong to.
- Project: Narrow down Tasks based on a specific Project.
- Owner / Member: Filter by Task Owner or Members involved.
- Priority: View Tasks based on their assigned priority level.
-
Percentage Completed: Filter tasks by their progress or completion percentage.
- Date Range: A date range picker allows users to filter Tasks by start or due dates.
- The Refresh button allows users to update the Gantt Chart to reflect the most current data after filters have been applied or changes have been made.
Governance Platform description field enhancement
- We have introduced the ability to expand the Description field across all Governance fields, enhancing the flexibility and ease of use when working with descriptions.
- Expand Button: A new Expand button has been added to all Description fields within Governance. Clicking this button transitions the Description field into full-screen mode, providing a larger, more immersive workspace.
- Collapse/Exit Full-Screen: Users can return to the standard view by clicking the Collapse or Exit Full-Screen button.
-
Table and Image Support: The expanded Description field also includes the ability to insert tables and paste images, offering greater flexibility in how information is organised and presented.
